Rohin Kickett

Co-Director Balardong / Whadjuk Nyoongar

Rohin Kickett is a Balardong Nyoongar artist and co-director of Hyphenate Art Consultancy. Born in Northam in 1986 and raised on Whadjuk country in Gosnells, Rohin’s practice is grounded in cultural continuity, lived experience, and the power of truth-telling through visual art.

Before becoming a professional artist, Rohin spent over a decade in the fabrication industry, including six years as a workshop supervisor overseeing up to 60 tradesmen across 30 projects. This experience fostered deep organisational and leadership skills that now underpins his approach to public art coordination and consultancy.

In 2018, he completed the IndigenousTertiary Enabling Course through the Centre for Aboriginal Studies at Curtin University and commenced a Bachelor of Fine Art. Though he later withdrew due to health, this academic journey ignited a more personal and historical exploration of Noongar identity, fueling a practice rooted in family narratives and cultural memory.

Rohin has delivered significant public artworks across Western Australia and internationally, with commissions from the City of Perth, City of Armadale, Lang O’Rourke, Multiplex, and others. His work has been exhibited in cultural exchanges and festivals in China, and featured in major events such as the Fremantle Biennale (2021). He has also received accolades from Binjareb NAIDOC Art Awards, Minnawarra Art Awards, and Bunbury Regional Art Gallery.

His work is held in prominent collections, including:

  • Art Gallery of Western Australia (AGWA)
  • Chevron Australia
  • City of Armadale
  • City of South Perth
  • Bunbury Regional Art Gallery
  • Qianjiang International Art Gallery, Hangzhou, China

As a co-founder of Hyphenate, Rohin brings together a wealth of hands-on knowledge, cultural leadership, and a commitment to ethical collaboration. He champions projects that honour Country, invest in artists, and build long-term cross-cultural relationships grounded in mutual respect.

Hyphenate acknowledge the Traditional Owners of Country throughout Australia, and in particular the Whadjuk Nyoongar people, the Traditional Custodians of the lands on which we live and work. we pay our respects to their Elders past, present and emerging. We recognise their continuing connection to the vast skies above, the flowing waterways, and the lands beneath our feet, Country that has held story, knowledge and spirit for countless generations. May we walk gently upon this Country, listening and learning from its custodians, with gratitude and respect.
